IRON MICHAEL’S MIND: Priming The Pump

Zig Ziglar, in my opinion is the single greatest symbol of leadership, excellence and integrity this world has ever seen.  There are hundreds of hours of resources that Ziglar has published and put out there for you and I to meditate on.  His audio and DVD series was given to me by my mentor Chris Patterson a few years ago and from the first minute of the first CD I felt myself growing dramatically.   I promise if you spend a few min a day, a couple hours a week, watching/ listening to/reading some of this man’s stuff, your life will be changed for the better.

Priming the pump is a metaphor for one of life’s greatest challenges: working hard enough, for long enough and enthusiastically enough so that you will achieve your goals.  I have found that it’s not that people don’t do the right things, it’s that they don’t do them for long enough.  Stay the course my friends…everything you have ever wanted to accomplish is right on the other side of hard work and perseverance.

IRON MICHAEL’S MIND: THE IMPORTANCE OF A MENTOR AND SELF EDUCATION

A few years ago, I met a man named Chris Patterson who is now my mentor and great friend.  My life has dramatically changed for the better since the first day we met.  Most of the content of this video including the importance of self education are principals he has instilled in me.  Find someone who is smarter than you, more motivated than you and works harder than you do and then try to emulate their every move.  That’s what I have done and I hope that one day I can make an impact like he has.

IRON MICHAEL’S MIND: Break The Chains of Self-Doubt

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” -Marianne Williamson

IRON MICHAEL’S MIND: Improve Confidence With A Mental Highlight Reel

“You have to be a legend in your own mind before you can be a legend in your own time.” -Jack Nicklaus

A mental highlight reel was first introduced to me by the book Mind Gym by Gary Mack. I have made it a habit to make sure I keep one and keep adding to it. I used it in my Division I college wrestling career and in my Professional MMA career. IMG_5341 Read more

IRON MICHAEL’S MIND: Build Yourself Up Daily – Resource List

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily. -Zig Ziglar

This may seem like a funny comparison(motivation and bathing), but at its core it is absolutely relevant. Just like the clean smells of soap, shampoo and body wash fade within a day of showering, so does motivation if we don’t re-apply it into our minds. In order to stay built upIMG_7091 Read more

IRON MICHAEL’S MIND: FINDING INSPIRATION

We all have different things that make us “tick,” what inspires one person may not necessarily move the next.  We have to find out what motivates and inspires us so we can continue to stay built up daily.  Being built up daily and continuing education is a sure-fire way to increase your likelihood of reaching your goals. Inspiration; get some!!

IRON MICHAEL’S MIND: The Thirty-Three Percent Rule

“Live the 33% rule. Hang with top third people, they are dream makers. Middle
third: blow in the wind. Bottom third: suck the life out of you.” -Sue Enquist

The Thirty-Three Percent Rule

In a book I recently finished by John Wooden, the legendary basketball coach and one of the greatest leaders of all time, mentions UCLA softball coach Sue Enquist. Coach Enquist had over an 80% winning percentage during her tenure as head coach. She also coached the lady Bruins to two NCAA Titles. She, like John Wooden stressed the importance of attitude toward your craft as well as how your attitude about life will always spill over into your performance on the field.

Sue talks about how there are basically three different kinds of people and they each make up a third of the population. There are the bottom 33%, the middle 33% and the top 33%. I’m sure you can see where I am going with this, but lets dive deeper into it. Read more
